In order to determine the best PE tarpaulin to purchase, a buyer must already have a good idea on its intended use or purpose.

Tarpaulin Materials

Polyethylene is the most chosen type of tarpaulin, because their cost-efficiency and flexibility. PE tarpaulins are waterproof and are often UV coated. However, PE tarpaulins are best suited for temporary applications such as camping.

Tarpaulin Thickness/Weight

The thickness of the tarpaulin is measured in “g/m2”. Lightweight tarpaulins are typically 5 to 8 mils thick. Tarpaulin Sizes

Cut Size

Cut Size refers to the size of a tarpaulin before welding of seams and hems. As an example, for a 2x 3m Cut Size tarpaulin, the material will start at 2x 3m. After welding, it will finish approximately 1.9x 2.9m. Generally, you will lose 5cm-10cm per dimension depending on the size of the piece and the number of seams needed to fabricate the piece. 5cm of fabric is needed to make a hem, plus additional material is needed to weld the fabrics together.

Finished Size

Conversely, Finish Size refers to the size of a tarpaulin after welding (hem) has been completed. This means that if the Finish Size is specified when ordering, the extra fabric that is necessary to create hems and seams has already been accounted for and the actually finished product will be 2 x 3m. As such, a 2 x 3m Finish Size tarpaulin will finish at 2 x 3m after welding is completed. In other words, the material will start larger, approximately 2.1 x 3.1m and then after the hems and seams are made, the piece will be 2 x 3m when completed.

1. Blue – The most popular color in the market. Blue tarpaulins are generally considered all-purpose tarpaulins for household use and some industrial/manufacturing environments.
